چکیده

The skeleton of the neck and shoulders has undergone alterations during evolution, but muscle connectivity has not. A recent study suggests this is a result of neural crest cells defining attachment points and thus muscle connectivity.

Evidence for the prepattern/cooption model of vertebrate jaw evolution.

The appearance of jaws was a turning point in vertebrate evolution because it allowed primitive vertebrates to capture and process large, motile prey. The vertebrate jaw consists of separate dorsal and ventral skeletal elements connected by a joint. How this structure evolved from the unjointed gill bar of a jawless ancestor is an unresolved question in vertebrate evolution. To understand the d...

Optimization of Minimum Quantity Liquid Parameters in Turning for the Minimization of Cutting Zone Temperature

The use of cutting fluid in manufacturing industries has now become more problematic due to environmental pollution and health related problems of employees. Also the minimization of cutting fluid leads to the saving of lubricant cost and cleaning time of machine, tool and work-piece. The concept of minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) has come in to practice since a decade ago in order to overco...

Saccadic head rotations during walking in the stalk-eyed fly (Cyrtodiopsis dalmanni).

In stalk-eyed flies (Diopsidae), the eyes are positioned at the end of rigid peduncles protruding laterally from the head. Sexual selection for eye span in male Cyrtodiopsis dalmanni results in eye span that exceeds body length and exceeds the eye span of females. We studied whether the twofold higher moment of inertia (MOI) of the male head results in a reduced head rotation velocity during tu...

Quantitive studies of the reactions to horizontal angular accelerations in axolotls. II. head-turning reflexes in animals with a supernumerary pair of labyrinths.

In axolotls (Ambystoma mexicanun) the labyrinths and the associated parts of the medulla were doubled artificially. In these so-called tandem-heads the vestibular afferent fibres from both labyrinths on one side united within the medulla to form common bundles. The head-turning reflexes following impulse acceleration and during long-lasting acceleration were measured quantitatively and compared...
